The annual Stoptober campaign is back with a bang! This year is its 10th anniversary, so there’s never been a better time to get involved and help more smokers kick the habit. Stoptober has already helped 2.3 million people quit, but with over 6 million adult smokers in the UK, we’ve still got work to do.
As members of the vaping industry, it’s our responsibility to work together to help more individuals find a healthier alternative. Whilst it's better to quit completely, we all know that making the switch to vaping offers a much higher success rate than going cold turkey.
There’s loads of ways you can get your vape business involved in Stoptober, so we’ve put together a few of our ideas below to help you get started.
What is Stoptober?
Organised by the NHS, Stoptober is an annual campaign that runs throughout October, with the primary aim of helping thousands of people quit smoking. It’s built around a 28-day challenge, with the idea being that 28 days is long enough to make a sustained habitual change.
There are a range of tools offered by the NHS to support the campaign, including apps, posters and helpful tips to help smokers along the way. Following a rise in smoking rates during lockdown, it’s important to make more people aware of the health risks of smoking and how their overall wellbeing would quickly improve with quitting.
With this in mind, let's talk about some of the ways your business can get on board.
Put posters in your stores
One of the easiest ways to promote Stoptober is to use your store. There are lots of rules around what you can and can’t put in your windows when you’re promoting vaping, but supporting Stoptober is a lot easier.
If you fancy yourself a bit of a designer, why not put together some posters for your storefront? There’s loads of facts and statistics you can use from the NHS Better Health Website, Cancer Research UK and Public Health England, to name just a few. Just make sure whatever you’re saying can be backed up and that you’re quoting your sources.
Run special promotions throughout Stoptober
You probably already offer your existing customers some great deals, but running promotions on your more basic starter kits is a great way to encourage ex-smokers to make the switch.
New vapers won’t be interested in all the latest mods and coils, they’re just looking for something that’s accessible and satisfies their nicotine cravings. Pushing your more basic kits, such as the Aspire Vilter or the VooPoo Vinci, along with some tasty e-liquid bundles is a great place to start.
Offer a little extra advice and guidance

It might take a little getting used to as vaping offers a different sensation to smoking cigarettes. Discuss the choice of flavour profiles you offer, finding something they’ll love first time is essential if they’re going to stick with e-cigarettes.
Some customers might have already tried vaping before, but had a negative experience with a poor kit or bad vape juice. Talking a little bit about your own experiences and how cheaper hardware compares with your high-quality devices will make it much more relatable and put them at ease.
